To curb corruption at the panchayat level, the State Panchayat and Rural Development Department has ordered the immediate transfer of around 1,100 panchayat workers who have been stationed in the same place for three years. Panchayat Minister Dilip Ghosh also announced that regular audits will be enforced across all Gram Panchayats.
Additionally, steps are being taken to fill 11,154 vacant posts in the three-tier panchayat system through formal examinations.
The Finance Department (Audit Branch) issued a circular directing all administrative departments, directorates, and regional offices to submit a detailed report on all vacant posts by June 3, 2026.
The departments must prepare reports in a designated Excel format categorized by offices, including data up to May 1, 2026, and provide justifications for any vacancies proposed for direct recruitment. This review aims to accelerate stalled recruitment processes and address staff shortages across state departments.
Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari announced that the state government is drafting a new recruitment bill to be introduced in the next assembly session to ensure transparent, merit-based state recruitments.
The proposed reforms include reducing the weightage of oral/viva marks to prevent corruption and mandating that candidates receive carbon copies of their OMR sheets. The state's recruitment status transitions to in-progress as the administration prepares this legislative framework.
Finance Department Order No. 1631-F(H) dated 11.05.2026 directs the immediate termination of all re-employment beyond age 60 and removal of nominated heads in Boards/PSUs.
While this action creates vacancies, no detailed recruitment notification, PSC/WBSSC schedule, or comprehensive merit-based recruitment roadmap has been issued yet in connection with this order.
