Under powers given by the proviso to Article 309 of the Constitution of India, the Governor of West Bengal has amended the West Bengal Services (Raising of Age-limit) Rules, 1981 (originally published under Notification No. 10317-F in December 1981).

This official notification, published by the Finance Department via Notification No. 1707-F(P2), raises the upper age limit by 5 years for direct recruitment to state government services and posts. The revised age limits are now set at 41 years for Group A, 44 years for Group B, and 45 years for Groups C & D, with retroactive effect from May 11, 2026.
